haha! i know exactly what you mean! that is an almost exact representation of anyone who has anything art related to work. i get a lot of its "needs to be swirlier... thats too swirly... awww make it swirly like that but not too swirly, so its swirly like that chicks hair out of that movie! .... yea you know what i mean" "oh... i changed my mind im going to get a fairy now!"

fuckers! hehe

its amazing how much people come in willing to spend as much money as they do on something they really have no idea how they want!! rediculous!

ahhh someone understands :)
the amount of times ive designed something and kept it for my folio, only to have the client change it to a shite alteration ....

im getting better at convincing them of the right things to choose, but the world is still not a dream.

back to the tattoos for a sec, yeh i watch Miami Ink and crack up at some of the things that happen, ie just lettin the artists "come up with something" hell if its going into "my" skin, im gonna be the one to choose what the art is lol.

i totally agree with your comment
"if its going into "my" skin, im gonna be the one to choose what the art is"
but.. also at the same time a lot of the customers need help or direction on how something should look to get the best looking outcome which im sure youre totally aware of indeed!

and as you have noted there are plenty of not so bright people out there who know what they want but have no idea as far as aesthetics go!

so yea.. feel free to tell me what you want and how you want it to look and i will do my best to get it right. most of the time customers are pretty easy going and happy with what we come up with :)
that said a lot of people would be happy with a scribble on them!
eheh

ramble away! i guess this is the idea of such a vehicle and im doing what was intended!

>end rant!

Diego signing out.

indeed this is the very purpose of such a forum :) lol. and i too agree with your musings ...

like everything there has to be a balance. i think at the cornerstone of the art there must be a meaning or personal connection for it to be worthwhile 1 day to 100 years later. and i defiantly agree the artist tattooing must be allowed to add their personal style and flare, as long as it follows the same themes.

ie if Mike Giant were round i'd say "ok mike i want the .... .... ... now do your best to create something around that brief :) hehe

lastly : Alec : whats the pain factor like? and how do you guys charge? per session? hour rate? colour vs bw ?

A dagger and skull at sixteen was mucho especially done on the open beaches of East Africa and in front of all the chickie babes. Art wasn’t even considered, price and a 6 volt home made vibrating needle was the criteria. Pioneering stuff, before the days of HIV too. The problem now is forty four years on I would prefer something more...more...err… well come on you artist types, what? Diego can an old tattoo some how be incorporated in a new one?

that might depend on what you mean by an old tattoo? ie: an exisiting tattoo, or a new tattoo done in an old school style or tattoo art? if its old it can most certainly be added to and re coloured if necessary or covered over completely! and there are definite old school styles of tattoos, personally im not much of a fan since theyre sort of naive but whatever floats your boat i suppose!

miguel - anything is possible

shaun - well.. pain factor. its a very unique sensation. the closest i can think of would be when youre sunburnt and it stings lots.. or the sting of gravel rash after it has happened! but it pretty much stops hurting once the needle comes off the skin.
that said everyone takes to the pain very differently, i made a girl cry last monday, i tattooed a girl today who was so worked up from the adrenaline i only got less than 1cm of line into her and she had to stop cause she felt ill. after a short break she was fine. sooo.. it really depends on the person! but if it was that bad not so many people would get them yea?! hehe

as for pricing it is $150 per hour and that is also minimum charge.
colour / b&w - doesnt really make a difference its all colour (depending on your point of view i suppose!). something that is coloured may take slightly longer, but only cause i like to run grey shades on the picture first then run colours over that to give it its tones rather then mixing 4 tones of say green! not everyone works the same but i much prefer the outcome.
it'll cost more depending on size, complexity and positioning on the body!

something on the lower back with cost almost 2x if it were elsewhere on the body cause that skin stretches so much more and you tattoo at stretched size. so yea
almost everything you need to know about tattoo!
:)

Thanks for that diego, I understand what you are saying and I suppose what I would have to look at is a cover over as the tat is old school and lac’s artistic expression, I would like something really artistic, as some of the tats are today.
I remember when I coerced my wife Gayle to get a tatt on her bum [two in the family shaun]. When she asked how painful it was I played it down, she went through the process and when it was finished said ‘You bastard that hurt!”. We all have different pain thresh holds. HeHe He

hah! superb miguel! most of the time we try to wind up our customers so they think theyre in for something close to being hit by a car so when they get started it they are more comfortable with what they get! :)
