Frida Kahlo at SFMOMA

Another chilly day today in downtown SF. took another bus journey out to the Bay area, but headed back pretty early after a large breakfast. I took a trip out to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (mouthfull or what?) later in the day to just relax and scope out some fantastic art.

Funnily enough there's a Frida Kahlo exhibition on at the moment which was fantastic to view. i actually studdied her work and life for my final year of TEE Art. amazing to see her paintings up close and personal. so much feeling and emotitional content to digest, it was a great mixup for a day. tomorrow .... i think its time, crab time. or shrimp. ok dinner time here, gotta jet. oh btw, we're seeing The Dark Knight at the opening IMAX tomorrow (can't wait)

Frida Kahlo, did you visit her "Blue House" in Mexico City?
She wrote in her diary: "I hope the exit is joyful - and I hope never to return - Frida". Then she died. Way to go Frid. Have you or are you going to her execution? Amazing how if you are an artist you have to die before recognition.

Uh...Da.... Don't mind me...You did go see her I just refresed my memory from seven minutes ago. Must have been quite exhilarating especially as you had studied her for your TEE.
She had a tormented life filed with so much pain. From Wikipedia:
Kahlo contracted polio at age six, which left her right leg thinner than the left, which Kahlo disguised by wearing long skirts. It has been conjectured that she also suffered from spina bifida, a congenital disease that could have affected both spinal and leg development. As a girl, she participated in boxing and other sports. On September 17, 1925, Kahlo was riding in a bus when the vehicle collided with a trolley car. She suffered serious injuries in the accident, including a broken spinal column, a broken collarbone, broken ribs, a broken pelvis, eleven fractures in her right leg, a crushed and dislocated right foot, and a dislocated shoulder. An iron handrail pierced her abdomen and her uterus, which seriously damaged her reproductive ability.

Although she recovered from her injuries and eventually regained her ability to walk, she was plagued by relapses of extreme pain for the remainder of her life. The pain was intense and often left her confined to a hospital or bedridden for months at a time. She underwent as many as thirty-five operations as a result of the accident, mainly on her back, her right leg and her right foot.

Wow no wonder she doesn't want to come back!

Heyas, yeh all good here, still in San Francisco for 3 days, we ship out on Wed. yeh i figured since there had been no posts from my Mum, they were out and about in the Van, glad we haven't gotten that weather here. been quite the last couple of days as we have really taken it easy, haven't been shooting too much.

Miguel / Gayle: thanks for the warm wishes and comments, don't worry i'll have to bring over all the photo's soon for the full stories :)

Fridas exhibit was fantastic, what a tortured soul she was, and yet extremly talented as she explored her work through later life. other than that, it was just great to mellow out for the day in the gallery itself, away from the rush of the city sidewalks.

much love to all, Alec, hope ur family is well, friends we've met along the way, see you all again soon.

Yes, I am back now :) Had a wonderful weekend away, and survived the hurriedness weather, hey is was fun but cold!! I saw the movie on Frida, and she was quite a tough lady, she had to be to have survived the trials of the life she had! Her exhibition must have been something to see, just think she showed how tortured she was by her "weird" self portraits. Chow for now.......
