"Cui bono"

Barrie Zwicker is an independent documentary producer, author and social and political activist. Prior to December 2003, Zwicker was the resident media critic (the only such in Canada) for 15 years with Vision TV, Canada's only independent not-for-profit TV channel and the world's first multi-faith TV channel. In the 2001-2002 Zwicker hosted "VisionTV Insight", a weekly half-hour commercial-free alternative look at the media, One series titled "What Really Happened on Sept. 11th?" - made him the first mainstream television journalist in the world to go on air and deeply question the official story of the events of 9/11. The commentaries elicited the greatest response of any programming in the channel's history. The response was literally 99% positive. The series became known as "The Great Deception"

Synopsis of Barrie Zwinker's DVD releases are below. I've recently acquired copies of both and i can pass these to anyone who wants to view them. Watch and keep an open mind as always. Make your own conclusions. Spread this information as you see fit.

THE GREAT DECEPTION - The War on Terrorism - An Alternative View. DOCUMENTARY
Media critic Barrie Zwicker, is one of the few North American journalists to offer an alternative viewpoint on the Sept. 11 tragedy. In this provocative six-part series of Media file commentaries, he challenges the official explanation for the attacks and considers the troubling implications of America’s new war. Poring over a wealth of published material, Zwicker finds much that has gone unexamined – from the apparent breakdown of American air defenses on Sept. 11, to the longstanding ties between U.S. intelligence and Osama bin Laden. He also takes a hard look at the actions of President George W. Bush in the midst of the crisis. And he ventures to ask what role U.S. oil interests may have played in these events. Ultimately, it compels the viewer to ponder the unanswered question: Whose interests are really served by the “war on terrorism”?

THE GREAT CONSPIRACY: The 9/11 News Special You Never Saw. DOCUMENTARY
is a 70-minute sequel to The Great Deception, In The Great Conspiracy, Zwicker analyses the use of fear to befuddle the public, and deconstructs the so-called "war on terrorism" as a public control mechanism. He then examines in depth the failure of the military to function on 9/11 and the entirely inappropriate behaviour of the president and his aides that day. Finally, the resistance of the White House to any proper investigation, the extreme taintedness of the 9/11 commission and its drastic underperformance are examined. Throughout, the compliance and complicity of the mainstream media in maintaining a trance of ignorance is addressed. And the responsibility of each thinking citizen emphasized at the end.

BBC . We are the Aliens

BBC.Horizon.2006.We.are.the.Aliens

First broadcast on 14 November 2006

Clouds of alien life forms are sweeping through outer space and infecting planets with life – it may not be as far-fetched as it sounds.

The idea that life on Earth came from another planet has been around as a modern scientific theory since the 1960s when it was proposed by Fred Hoyle and Chandra Wickramasinghe. At the time they were ridiculed for their idea – known as panspermia. But now, with growing evidence, it's back in vogue and even being studied by NASA.

We meet the scientists on a mission to get to the bottom of the beginnings of life on Earth - from the team in Texas who are lovingly building a robotic submarine called DEPTHX to explore a moon of Jupiter, to Southern India where they are investigating a mysterious red rain which fell for two months in 2001. According to local scientist Godfrey Louis, the rain contains biological cells unlike any he had seen before – with no DNA and the ability to replicate at 300°C. Louis has come to the conclusion that the cells are extra-terrestrial in origin.

Could all this really be proof that We are the aliens?

This is the most accurate portrayel the "media" has shown of him to date, apparantly the programmes producer was one of the very few that attended Icke lectures whilst he was at university in the mid 90's and recently approached him with regards to making a documentary profile to be shown on network tv.

Are You A Serial Killer ...?

Stephen King
April 20th 2007
FULL ARTICLE

Predicting Violence:
In the wake of the Virginia Tech murders, novelist and Entertainment Weekly contributing editor Stephen King comments on the connection between violent writing / thoughts and violent acts.

"I've thought about it, of course. Certainly in this sensitized day and age, my own college writing would have raised red flags, and I'm certain someone would have tabbed me as mentally ill because of them.

As a teacher, I had one student who once raised red flags galore in my own mind: stories about flaying women alive, dismemberment, and, the capper, ''getting back at THEM.'' George was very quiet, and verbally inarticulate. It was only in his written work that he spewed these relentless scenes of gore and torture. His job was in the University Bookstore, and when I inquired about him once, I was told he was a good worker, but ''quiet.'' I thought, ''Whoa, if some kid is ever gonna blow, it'll be this one.'' He never did ..... But that was in the days before a gun-totin' serial killer could get top billing on the Nightly News and possibly the covers of national magazines.

For most creative people, the imagination serves as an excretory channel for violence: We visualize what we will never actually do. On the whole, I don't think you can pick these guys out based on their work."

It begs the question, Are we over influenced by the excessive blood and guts of crime dramas, horror films, violent videogames and graphic novels, leading to such horrific real life crimes? Or are they simply the formats for the creative expression of our darkest thoughts. The outlets that allow safe expression of ideas that are always there, with words and images, rather than bullets and blood. Think about the bigger picture that escalates everytime these real life crimes are thrown onto the front page news. Its the prime avenue for finger pointing, blame naming, and fuel to the restrictive policies on freedom of expression and creativity.

Maybe all we really should focus on, is learning to open up and communicate again.

IRAQ FOR SALE : The War Profiteers

Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers is the story of what happens to everyday soldiers when corporations go to war.

Acclaimed director Robert Greenwald, with movies such as, (Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, Outfoxed, and Uncovered) takes you inside the lives of soldiers, truck drivers, widows and children who have been changed forever as a result of corporate greed in the reconstruction of Iraq. Iraq for Sale uncovers the connections between private security companies making a killing in Iraq and the decision makers who allow them to do so.

Rich, this needs to go out to your friends in the Military. Eyes need to be opened, this isn't about Democracy, Protecting Civilians, Fighting Terrorism . ... it's about creating the false pretense for a war in which International Corporations could plunder resources and gain record profits among other things. Yes this is taken from an American standpoint, but look between the lines, our Australian troops are there on the front lines, as well as participating security forces. As usual i have a copy of this latest doco and will gladly pass it to those that wish to see it.

Cold Front ...

Sit back, close your eyes and conjure up a picture of Australia... that's it, keep going, what do you see? Long beaches, plenty of surf, corked hats, Alf and Ailsa Stewart maybe! Well, whatever image your mind conjures up when you think of the glorious island down under, you can be sure it doesn't involve Stormie Mills and his legions of darkly alluring friends. Hailing from Perth, Stormie is one of Australia's foremost graffiti artists with many years of illicit wall smashing under his belt.

Having started off the way most young kids do, writing names and trying to get up, Stormie soon realised that he could find a better medium through which to communicate his messages. Stormie's focus shifted away from words and onto people, where he found a more powerful and seductive medium through which to express himself. "I roll out letters sometimes but really I'd prefer to communicate visually on a deeper emotional level with characters," Stormie explains. "They scream more about the way the world 'works' and I believe that the downtrodden are all super-heroes on the inside."

So after a summer of inspiration and exhibitions Stormie is now back in the warmer climes of Oz and concentrating on a few little projects that he has under way including some street installation art and plans for a new exhibition sometime in the future. For those of you who missed out on the 'Third' exhibition, to your detriment, you may well get another chance to gaze into the black and white world of the Storm boy as he has plans to hit these shores again soon with more of his two dimensional friends. In one last flurry of insight Stormie imparts that there is a little of himself in his characters: "They have what I see, the darker side of life, the not such a pretty picture side. I like the damaged beauty in the world."

While the philosophical vein is still tapped what does Stormie see the future holding: "As my friend Matt told me today, 'tomorrow hasn't been written yet'."

9/11 Fact Sheet

What occurred on September 11th, 2001 is a matter of facts, physics and unprecedented violations of national protocol by American officials themselves. Here are 10 points to consider. There are hundreds more...

1. No steel-framed building before or since 9/11 has ever collapsed due to fire.

2. No official agency (FAA, FBI, or the airlines) has ever released a list of the 9/11 passengers. But within hours, the FBI released a list of the hijackers.

3. Multiple air-defense drills were planned for the morning of 9/11. These exercises left only two fighter jets available to protect the entire Northeastern United States.

4. Building 7, a 47-story skyscraper and part of the World Trade Center complex, was not struck by a plane but collapsed in 6.5 seconds at 5:20 p.m. on September 11th, in the exact manner of a controlled demolition.

5. There was no visible airplane debris where Flight 93 supposedly crashed in Pennsylvania – only a smoking hole in the ground, much like a bomb crater.

6. Office fires burn at low temperatures of 600-800 dF. Jet fuel is an ordinary hydrocarbon; its maximal burning temperature is 1200 dF in open air. Steel melts at 2750 dF. Neither jet fuel nor the burning contents of the buildings could cause the towers’ steel structure to buckle or fail.

7. Tests have shown that cell-phone calls cannot be made at altitudes over 4000 to 8000 feet, as cell towers are located on the ground. Commercial airplanes fly at 30,000 feet and above. No passenger could have successfully placed a call for help by cell phone from an airborne plane on 9/11, as reported.

8. 9/11 was immediately declared an “act of war” by President Bush. The rubble from the Twin Towers’ collapse was carted away and the steel sold and shipped overseas without examination.

9. Enormous profits were made by insiders on plummeting stock prices of the two airlines involved in 9/11 – American and United. Federal law protects their identities.

10. Accepting victims’ compensation barred 9/11 families from further discovery through litigation.

Nine Inch Nails: The Hand That Feeds
You're keeping in step
In the line
Got your chin held high and you feel just fine
Because you do
What you're told
But inside your heart it is black and it's hollow and it's cold

Just how deep do you believe?
Will you bite the hand that feeds?
Will you chew until it bleeds?
Can you get up off your knees?
Are you brave enough to see?
Do you want to change it?

What if this whole crusade's
A charade
And behind it all there's a price to be paid
For the blood
On which we dine
Justified in the name of the holy and the divine

Just how deep do you believe?
Will you bite the hand that feeds?
Will you chew until it bleeds?
Can you get up off your knees?
Are you brave enough to see?
Do you want to change it?

So naive
I keep holding on to what I want to believe
I can see
But I keep holding on and on and on and on

Will you bite the hand that feeds you?

Future Focus - The Planet

The Planet: (Part 01 in SBS's new series) is a hot-from-the oven attempt to find answers about the truths and untruths of the alarming global changes that many claim are already in motion. It is the most extensive documentary project to ever be produced in Scandinavia. The film crews have been working for more than two years and have visited over 25 countries around the world. The extraordinary visual style and the unexpected content in The Planet will ameliorate the indifferent attitude many people have with regard to climate change.

The Planet: is part of SBS Television's Feature: Future Focus, six weeks of innovative, insightful and thought-provoking programming dealing with environmental, scientific and social issues critical to our future on this earth, airing from 10 April 2007 8:30PM, only on SBS Television. Check your local guides for times, tune in tomorrow for part 01. I'm presuming it will follow for the next 6 weeks same time and day. Its a must watch! Tune in to something meaningful for a change.

Right Place ... Right Time

Just out doing some personal photography for UNI and my collection. Basically taking shots of anything with interesting textures / colours / shadows, nothing specific at the time....

so im down at the Swan River foreshore next to this huge date palm. iPod in pocket, listening to C2C, camera in hand, just chilling out taking some snaps. along come this British couple. ...

*cue interruption cough*
"Excuse me! ... excuse me, we've been watching you from over there. can you tell us what you are you taking photos of?"
*im standing in front of a date palm. i thought it was pretty bloody obvious myself.*
"Is there birds or things in there? is that what your after?"
*my reply is a genuine, nope just taking shots for my design work.*

funny thing with fate, you can never tell when its gonna smile on you, bound to never repeat, you just have to be there, right place, right time. long story short, the couple walk off, and no sooner were they 5 meters away, a couple of Rainbow Lorikeet Parrots arrived to pose for me in the palm. i couldnt believe my luck, chewing away at lunch (dates) they were about 1.5 meters away from me, aware but not scared of my presence.

nice to be out for awhile and not take things so seriously, to just remember how unique things are outside our doors. natures own colour palettes. click each one for a larger version.

CCTV .. (Closed Circuit Televison Cameras)
Thats right folks, security cameras are becoming a way of life. Big Brother and the Authoritative watchdogs out there are pushing their electronic eyes and ears into every corner of our lives.

Thank goodness its used for the right reasons ...
Protecting our freedoms by alerting the authorities to any suspicious behaviors that could seem like an act or prelude to a terrorist act. snuffing out those who don't quite look right. those that might have packed a bomb to work, ordered an extra load of fertiliser for his backyard garden ... or for that unsuspecting James Brown in all of us, wanting to bust out and reek havoc on those air drums and bass.

Watch the Video. Terrorist at Work! ... so the camera said.

Biting The Hand That Feeds : Arctic Monkeys

"It was file-sharing that helped them distribute their music to listeners for free but, now it seems that profits are their biggest concern". .... but who are these Artic Monkeys?

Arctic Monkeys are an English four-piece indie rock band originating from Sheffield England. Formed in 2002, Arctic Monkeys achieved chart success with their first two singles, reaching number one in the UK Singles Chart. Their debut album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history

Arctic Monkeys achieved their success and popularity through fan-made demo tapes and online file-sharing of their songs, before they had a record deal or album. They were heralded as one of the first acts to come to public attention via the internet, with commentators suggesting they represented the possibility of a change in the way in which new bands are promoted and marketed.

CUT TO 2007 :
The first real breakthrough act of the download era, the band that used file-sharing to build their audience, has now apparently secretly employed Web Sheriff to make sure that their new album, "Favourite Worst Nightmare," stays off file-sharing networks (P2P - Person to Person file transfer). It's being reported that the band's record label, has hired Web Sheriff, the London based File-sharing network copyright monitor, to protect against the Arctic Monkey's latest album from spreading across the internet.

Now aint it ironic that they're trying to kill off the very thing which made them what they are today? File Sharing, Consumer / Fan generated interest based on free downloads of music, ending in millions of Actual Hardcopy Records / CD Albums being sold to those very fans?

I've always argued this point, and i still stick to my guns. The Internet and more importantly its functions of file transfers, file sharing, music downloads, movie downloads, etc are actually benificial to those that choose to embrace its positives. For us as consumers its a kick in the butt to those media corporations that "Sell" us the latest and greatest, forcing a purchase, without allowing us to make the decision if the product is worthy. If we can hear / see / read and sample the product, i argue we can make more informed choices on whether it deserves further purchase or dismissal as rubbish. The power is given back to us, to choose who gets our dollar for the right reasons.

Yes I download music and movies. Yes i still purchase Cds and DVDs. I Try to make informed choices on who derserves my hard earned cash. Think a little before you spend.

Will You Make The Change? or Just Complain ...

Now that you've begun to inform yourselves through this forum / blog and other outlets, the knowledge is slowly filtering out. but what good is that if you aren't prepared to step outside your comfort zone and USE IT!

First example.
I came across this today and it sparked something off while shopping. we all hear and complain about "theres all these chemicals in our foods now" , "yeh have you seen the size of those chickens" , "all those hormones and additives" .....
I too have been hearing about and complaining at these things for long enough, and up till now have been too lazy and uninformed to make a change. thing is there are alternatives out there. as ive mentioned before these alternatives are priced higher on the shelf, but whats the price for good health ? and leaving a positive environmental footprint? we need to step away from "oh but its too expensive" and see the bigger picture. the price difference is obvious when you consider the costs of running independent organic or free range farms. more on this to follow.

For now, lets deal with the chicken debate. we have all seen those Coles and other chain prepacked chickens that look like 20 year old sized turkey breasts. know how they get that large? yup you guessed it. those chickens are bread on feed that is laced with growth hormones, enabling the farmer to breed larger chickens in smaller areas, in quicker time for slaughter. ie more product on the shelves quicker to make more profit for a cheaper production cost (feeding the chickens less natural food and for a shorter time than natural methods)

Im posting this to show there are alternatives. Grain fed, free range natural farms, producing healthy chickens free of additives and hormones. you need to investigate this on your own per state, but for us all in Western Australia .... Mt Barker Free Range Chicken, is a fine example. make the switch, eat healthy, support the environment that enables you to eat and drink, support those farmers and industries that are trying so desperately to fight off the giant food supermarket chains. think past those extra few dollars per serving, think long term health. once you make the change, encourage others. if you support a local butcher, inform them, and ask them to become a supplier.

Change doesn't happen in leaps, it begins with steps.

Tiffany Bozic

“I have always been drawn towards finding some kind of common thread or language that binds us to and separates us from nature and each other.”
Tiffany Bozic
Illustrator / Fine Artist
2006

Tiffany Bozic may be a young artist, but her paintings speak wisely of age-old thoughts and themes. Working with acrylic paint and wood, Tiffany lets her materials dictate what their fate should be. “I have always had an immense and probably very bizarre admiration for wood. I always felt like I relate to the currents and movements of the grain. When I look at a blank piece of wood, I see something swimming around in the grain already, it isn’t so conscious,” she explains. “I am following something inside me that finds a resolution only after going through a physical transformation by bringing it into existence. This is a slow process for me, I really don’t have any control over it. Whatever it is, it’s much more intelligent than I am.” Bozic says the experience is very intense and that she only “follows the orders” to fully understand what shape these visions will take on.

Recently caught Tiffany at the Perth edition of the Semi-Permanent Art / Design / Conference. still trying to pick my jaw from the ground. an amazing show full of inspiration. cheers to all involved, its just a tarnish that its now becoming a target for the wagon hopping "sponsors", to market their products at the young and absorbing minds. Andrew ... remember at heart, this shouldnt be for profit, this should be for the growth and inspiration of a new generation of creatives and artists, who will lead the world in communication. bring Perth a full show next time, lets cut the bullshit of transport costs and crowd turnouts. give us a go.

Monsanto ... evil runs deep and wide

The Monsanto Company is a multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation. It is the world's leading producer of the herbicide glyphosate, marketed as Roundup. Monsanto is also by far the leading producer of genetically engineered (GE) seed, holding 70%–100% market share for various crops. In March 2005, it finalized the purchase of Seminis Inc, making it also the largest conventional seed company in the world.

Monsanto's development and marketing of genetically engineered seed and bovine growth hormone, have made the company controversial around the world and a primary target of the anti-globalization movement and environmental activists.

Monsanto was founded in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1901, by John Francis Queeny, a 30-year veteran of the pharmaceutical industry. The company's first product was the artificial sweetener saccharin, which it sold to the Coca-Cola Company. It also introduced caffeine and vanillin to Coca-Cola, and became one of that company's main suppliers. In 1954, Monsanto partnered with German chemical giant Bayer to form Mobay and market polyurethanes in the US. In the 1960s and 1970s, Monsanto became the leading producer of Agent Orange for US Military operations in Vietnam. Other major products have included dioxin (in the herbicides 2,4,5-T and Agent Orange), aspartame (NutraSweet), bovine somatotropin (bovine growth hormone; BST), and PCBs. Monsanto scientists became the first to genetically modify a plant cell in 1982. Five years later, Monsanto conducted the first field tests of genetically engineered crops.

In the 1990's Monsanto conducted genetically modified (a.k.a. Terminator genes) Cotton trials in India through its subsidiary Cargill Seeds. It generated stiff opposition from the Indian Farmers and one of its Plants in Karnataka State was pulled down by protestors within hours and finally the Indian Government banned the company from continuing further. Throughout 2004 and 2005, Monsanto filed lawsuits against many small farmers in Canada and the U.S. The lawsuits have been on the grounds of patent laws, specifically the sale of crops containing Monsanto's patented genes as a result of wind carrying seeds from neighboring crops. As of February of 2005, Monsanto has also filed patent claims on common breeding techniques for pigs which would grant the ownership of any pigs born of such techniques and their related herds.

i generally thought this info and the Aspartame crisis was common knowledge, but it seems many still need to be alerted to the dangers. i hope this can be a forum for us to all share our concerns and information in an open fashion.

Monsanto detailed history

Aspartame .... poisons in diet softdrink

Aspartame is a sugar substitute frequently used in products like diet soda.(for example, Canderel®, NutraSweet®) Unlike sugar, aspartame is a non-carbohydrate based product, so it contains virtually no calories. The product is the result of an accidental discovery in 1965 by James Schlatter, when he made aspartame from aspartic acid and phenylalanine, he noticed its sweet taste.

It was first authorized to enter the market in the United States in 1974. The dangers of Aspartame poisoning have been a well-guarded secret since the 1980s. The research and history of Aspartame is conclusive as a cause of illness and toxic reactions in the human body. Aspartame is a dangerous chemical food additive, and its use during pregnancy and by children is one of the greatest modern tragedies of all.

Why haven't you heard about this before? Partly because the diet industry is worth trillions of American dollars to corporations, and they want to protect their profits by keeping the truth behind aspartame's dangers hidden from the public.

what a can of worms. are we all this blind to not see how we are poisoning ourselves?
thanks goes out to Miguel for spreading the words, i think its better served up here in this format for everyone to read, investigate, decide and comment on. more to come on Monsanto's business of food control. please read the articles linked and spread the words.... more importantly, make the change.

MON863 ... Dinner's Ready!

Australia: How safe is your Genetically Engineered Food? A (GE) corn approved for human consumption in Australia has produced toxicity symptoms when fed to rats! A new study on the effects of GE corn variety, MON863, on rats concludes it can't be considered a "safe product". However, the same variety was given a big tick by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), our government food safety regulator, declaring it safe for humans.

Developed by Monsanto, the world's largest genetic engineering company based in the US. Monsanto tried to suppress the test data but it was obtained by Greenpeace, following a court case. The same data was available to the national regulator, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), in 2004 yet FSANZ failed to assess it, relying solely on Monsanto’s analyses. Makes you want to just forget about shopping at your local chain stores. Buy up some land and just grow your own produce organically ... but wait, in order to grow something non Genetically Engineered / altered, you would need GE free seed. No second guess who supplies the market with standardised GE grains for growing. Farmers now days cant keep last years seeds. new seed is to be provided by Monsanto and other Corporate Agriculture Entities each season.

Knowledge is power, the more you know, the better decisions you can make next time you purchase your food. you can make a difference by thinking alot harder about organic and other quality produce. dont look at your bank balance ... thats what Monsanto is counting on.
